# No layers between you and the work.

Whoever scopes your project leads the build, and is who answers when you call about it. Nothing gets relayed, delegated, or handed to whoever was free.

## Built on nearly twenty years of software that had to work.

Nerdy Ventures is built on nearly twenty years of production software experience: the kind that comes from running systems people depend on every day, not from advising other people about theirs.

That includes high-volume backend systems where the traffic was real and the failures were public, and close to a decade of internal tools and public-facing applications built for expert practitioners, the kind of users who have no patience whatsoever for software that does not work.

Front to back, and underneath as well: the database, the application, the servers it runs on, the deployments, the backups, and the monitoring that tells you something is wrong before a customer does.

That last part matters more than it sounds. Most development shops hand you working code and leave the running of it to you, which is the part you are least equipped for, and the part that decides whether the software is still working at two in the morning on a Tuesday.

## Who we are.

Nerdy Ventures is a software engineering practice built around one accountable lead and a bench of specialists we bring in when the work calls for them: cloud platforms, on-premises infrastructure, data, and the operational side of keeping systems running.

Every engagement is led by the same person from the first call to the last invoice. Specialists work under that lead, never instead of it. You are never handed off, and you never explain your problem twice.

That is what “department” means here: the breadth of an in-house team, assembled around your problem rather than kept on a payroll you’re funding.

It also means we can say yes to the parts of a job that sit outside pure software, such as the server that needs to live in your building, without pretending one person does everything.

## The specialty is the part nobody advertises.

**Databases, migrations, upgrades, and legacy systems.** The software that already runs your business and that everybody is slightly afraid to touch.

Most of this work is not building something new. It is understanding something that already exists, usually without documentation and usually without the person who wrote it, and making it safe to change again.

Plenty of firms would rather sell you a rewrite. A rewrite is often the most expensive way to end up roughly where you started, and the year it takes is a year of running two systems at once.

Almost nobody wants this work. That is exactly why it is worth doing well, and why the businesses that need it done have so few good options.

## How we work.

### We look before we quote.

Anyone who prices custom software before understanding your process is guessing, and you pay for the guess later in change orders.

### Fixed price, not hourly.

You should know what this costs before it starts. An hourly meter rewards us for being slow, which is a strange thing to ask you to agree to.

### You own what we build.

The code, the documentation, the accounts. If you stop working with us, you keep all of it and it keeps running.

### We watch the job get done.

On site where that makes sense. The real problem is usually somewhere in the process, and it is rarely the thing you called about.

### We take on a few clients at a time.

Deliberately. Every engagement gets senior attention, and nobody learns on your project.

### We say no.

To work we shouldn’t take, to features that won’t earn their maintenance, and to promises about response times we can’t keep.

## Where AI actually pays. And where it doesn’t.

We use AI where it earns its cost and say so plainly where it doesn’t. A great deal of money is being spent right now automating processes nobody minded in the first place.

You have been pitched on this relentlessly. You do not need another pitch. You need someone who has actually built with these tools, in production, and can tell you which of the promises apply to your business and which don’t. Making AI make sense for a business your size is part of what Nerdy Ventures is for.

Where it genuinely pays is narrower and less exciting than the pitch: pulling structure out of documents somebody currently re-types by hand, sorting and routing inbound work, and finding patterns in data too large to eyeball.

If your problem is one of those, we’ll say so. If it isn’t, we’ll say that instead and build the boring thing that works.

## Bring the process that annoys you most.

Thirty minutes, no cost, no deck. You leave with a straight answer about whether we can help, and a rough idea of what it would cost if we can.
